Jan isn’t fond of sweet stuff which makes this piece of edible artwork an absolute rarity and a surprise. In the close to nine years we’ve been married, I can’t remember if he has prepared any other sweet dish before.
Of course, this creation may really just have been the result of necessity. He prepares breakfast for me every morning and there must have been nothing else in the fridge but a cut of Toblerone and some fruits the day he made this.
So that really makes me feel like a pig. Throw random stuff into a bowl, mix and serve, but boy was I a happy pig.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup diced green apple
1/2 cup diced mango
1/4 cup diced cheddar cheese
2 tbsps. cream
5 tbsps. fresh milk
1 slice grated Toblerone chocolate
Procedure:
1. Mix the first five ingredients.
2. Top with grated Toblerone chocolate.
Wife’s Verdict:
My in-laws are total opposites of my husband and I know if they had a taste of this they would have demanded for a canister of sugar to go with it. I actually like it better tasting subdued. The slight touch of sourness in the green apple and mango balanced out the sweetness of the chocolate while the cheese added another dimension in texture and taste. This is just the way I like it.
Jan’s Quip: “The way to a woman’s heart is through her stomach too.”

This is my favorite fruit salad dish.
Every weekend I ask my mum to make this for lunch and dinner both.
