Growing up, there was one thing I wanted to eat more often than anything else — Cheez Whiz. But with six kids to feed in the family, it was already considered a luxury. Now that I’ve got my own family, there are days when I allow myself to go Cheez Whiz crazy.
Thankfully, my personal cook shares a passion for the tasty spread. It doesn’t get any better than Jan’s cheesy mashed potatoes recipe.
Ingredients:
4 medium sized potatoes, peeled
1 clove garlic, peeled and crushed
1 chicken bouillon cube
80 g quick melt cheese
30 g Cheez Whiz spread pimiento flavor
1 cup milk, in two parts
Chopped parsley
Salt
Procedure:
1. Boil the potatoes in water together with garlic and bouillon cube for 20-25 minutes.
2. In a large, shallow plate, mash the potatoes using a fork and gradually add ½ cup of milk and season with salt until desired texture and taste. Set aside.
3. Heat a non-stick pan and melt cheese and cheese spread. Add the remaining milk.
4. Remove from heat and pour on top of the mashed potatoes. Garnish with parsley and serve. Serves 2.
Wife’s Verdict: This was absolutely brilliant! Yes, I’m aware that Cheez Whiz isn’t even a proper ingredient, but I don’t care. This was a childhood dream come true. The smooth roll of the cheese and creamy potatoes in my mouth felt like I was finally in cheese heaven.
Jan’s Quip: “I’m a genius.”
